This story was taken from page 406 of the Ireton Centennial Book (1882-1982). The author unknown. The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added.
Thomas W. Hatton and Anna Hatton moved to Ireton from Illinois between 1883 and 1885. They farmed 1 mile south and 1½ miles west of Ireton. They had 3 sons: Thomas H., Freddie, and Albert. Thomas W. died in 1921 and Anna died in 1907.
Thomas H. Hatton, born at Ireton Apr. 1884, and Florence Morey, born June 1882, were married June 21, 1905. They had one daughter, Elsie Ann (James).
Florence attended Mt. Morris College and taught school before her marriage. She was president of the Ladies Relief Corp. and was active in Farm Bureau. Both were very active in Presbyterian Church. They were married at the Dunkard Church that was 2 miles west of Craig at that time. Florence passed away in 1929 and Thomas died in Feb., 1970.
Jake Lindeman was their mail carrier for many years. He had a horse-drawn wooden mail cart.
Elsie Ann went to school with the McNallys, Earls, O’Maras, Bensons, and Nanningas. Elsie Ann Hatton (James) was married Aug. 1925 to Walter Schuette. Their children: Beverly Ann (Lilly), Walter killed in the service in 1950, Orville, Louise (Kady), La Vonne (Brown), Betty Lue deceased, Leon and Leona both deceased. Elsie Ann lives in Sioux City.

Thomas W. Hatton was born 29 Oct 1854 Winnebago IL and died 17 Feb 1921 Ireton, IA. His parents were Thomas Hatton 1811-1884 and Angeline C. Williams 1828-1908. He married Anne E Mc Donald 6 Mar 1883 at Winnebago IL.

1 . Thomas Henry Hatton 1884-1970 Funeral services for Thomas H. Hatton, 85, of Ireton, will be held at 1:30 P.M., today, Thursday, at the First Reformed Church in Ireton with Rev. Harold Lenters officiating. Mrs. Jake Kramer will be the organist. Casket bearers will be Fred Schutte, Eldo Degen, Ora Grau, Adolph Twillman, Louis Goodmanson and Charles Heidbrink. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton under the direction of Dow Funeral Home.
Mr. Hatton died Sunday, February 22, at the Mapes Nursing Home in Hawarden.
He was born April 23, 1884, at Ireton and farmed in the Ireton and Craig areas for many years. He was a resident of Ireton since 1955. In 1905 he married Florence Morey at Ireton. She preceded him in death in 1929.

Fred Hatton, who was born and raised near Ireton, in Washington township, but who had resided in LeMars for the past ten months, died very suddenly in a hospital there Sunday morning, (July 25, 1926). The exact cause of his death is not known and the attending physicians held a post mortem and his vital organs were forwarded to Iowa City to a pathologist who will make an examination and report the cause of his death. (later confirmed arsenic was ingested) When he doctor arrived Mr. Hatton was bleeding from his nose and he lived only a very short time after he reached the hospital. Mrs. Hatton stated that her husband, who had been working on a farm of late, spent last week at home as he was complaining of illness. She stated that she wished to call a doctor during the week, but he refused as he thought he would soon be all right again. Sunday morning he remained in bed late while Mrs. Hatton was about the house doing up the work and about eleven o'clock he suffered a severe attack of bleeding from the nose and she attended to his wants and called for a doctor.
Fred Hatton was born near Ireton July 11, 1886, and so was 40 years old at the time of his death. He was united in marriage with Miss Ethel Coon November 30, 1907, and this union was blessed with four children who survive him. The children are Lura, age 17, Wayne, age 14, Iris, aged 10, and Ella, age 11. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas of Hawarden and Albert of Sioux City. Most of his life was spent on a farm but on September 1, 1925, he moved with his family to LeMars, where Mrs. Hatton has been employed in a store, while he worked on a farm near LeMars. Prior to his moving to LeMars he was employed in the J. P. Riter Implement house at Craig.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at LeMars at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon (July 27) and interment was made in the Ireton cemetery.3. Albert Earl Hatton 1895-1944 Hawarden Independent, Hawarden, Sioux, Iowa, USA Thursday December 14, 1944
Albert Hatton of Sioux City DiesAlbert Hatton of Sioux City, 48, passed away in the Methodist hospital in that city at 7 o'clock Sunday morning from a heart ailment and complications. He had been confined to the hospital for ten days. Funeral services will be held at the Barnard Funeral home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, with Rev. Noel Orcutt of the Associated church in charge. Burial will be in the family plot at Ireton. Albert Hatton was born at Ireton July 19, 1896. He grew up in the vicinity of Ireton and as married to Blanche Edwards at Craig. For years he followed the trade of a painter. About 20 years ago he went to Sioux City, where he was employed until his last illness. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Lankhorst of Hawarden, and Mrs. Kenneth Miller and Wanda Hatton of Oakdale, Calif., He also leaves one brother, Thomas Hatton of Ireton. His daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Miller of Oakdale, arrived this morning to attend the funeral.OBITUARY OF THOMAS W. HATTON

Death of T.W. Hatton. It was rather a shock to the community of Ireton to learn that Thomas W. Hatton had been stricken with death last Thursday evening (February 17, 1921), after having been hurriedly taken home from down town where he became sick. He was born in Illinois October 20, 1854, and was married at Winnebago, Illinois, March 8, 1883 to Anna McDonald. Three sons were born, namely Thomas H. and Albert E. of Craig and Fred W of Springfield, Oregon, all of whom survive him. Mr. and Mrs. Hatton came to Sioux County about thirty-seven years ago, where they have lived these years, until the death of Mrs. Hatton three years ago, when Mr. Hatton came to Ireton to reside. He leaves three sisters and one brother as follows, Mrs. G. Reniger of Jamestown, Ohio, Mrs. Abbie Spencer, Miss Sarah Hatton and George Hatton, all of Aurora, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of his son Thomas E. Hatton, near Craig, conducted by the Rev. J. A. Kettie. A large number of people from Ireton and the immediate neighborhood were present to pay their respects to this worthy citizen, after which interment of his body was made at the Ireton cemetery.OBITUARY OF ANNA HATTON
Hatton, Annie born 4 May 1859 died 18 Jul 1907 wife of T. (Thomas) W. buried in Pleasant Hill cemetery Ireton IA. No obit was readily found in the papers.
The death record states: Hatten, Anna born 3/4/1859 48 years 2 mons, 14 days, married born in Illinois to Robert McDonald and Mary McFall died 18 Jul 1907.
