CHARLES NUGENT was born 17 Aug 1815 Dublin Ireland and died 4 Feb 1883 Matlock IA. He was the son of Francis Nugent 1780-1835 and Mary Barrett 1780-1865. Charles married in 1841 New York to Sarah F. Champine 1823-1882. Sarah F. Champine born 21 Feb 1822 DeKalb, St. Lawrence Co NY and died 3 Jul 1882 Sioux City IA(?)

(notice the discrepancies in the birth year from 1800-1808-1815; also with the year marriage and place. )

When Charles Nugent was born on 17 August 1800, in County Cavan, Ireland, his father, Francis Nugent, was 20 and his mother, Mary Louisa Barrett, was 20. He married Sarah Champine in 1839, in Iowa, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Washington Township, Dallas, Iowa, United States in 1870 and Grant Township, Sioux, Iowa, United States in 1880. He died on 4 February 1883, in Matlock, Sioux, Iowa, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in Matlock, Sioux, Iowa, United States.

1870 census Charles Nugent living in Washington township, Dallas County Iowa, listed as 62 years old, born 1802. His grave stone in Greenwood cemetery Matlock IA clearly states he was born 1800.

When Sarah Champine was born on 1 February 1823, in De Kalb, St. Lawrence, New York, United States, her father, Louis Champine, was 22 and her mother, Hannah Hewlitt, was 21. She married Charles Nugent in 1839, in Iowa, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. She lived in Washington Township, Dallas, Iowa, United States in 1870 and Grant Township, Sioux, Iowa, United States in 1880. She died on 3 July 1882, in Matlock, Sioux, Iowa, United States, at the age of 59, and was buried in Matlock, Sioux, Iowa, United States.

About the only newspapers that were in service in 1883 at the time of his death was the Alton Review and the Sioux County Herald of Orange City but his death notice doesn’t appear in those issues nor does his wife Sarah death in 1882.

Sioux County Herald of Nov 23, 1876 J. Jordan and W. Nugent are the declared elected Constables of Grant Township.

Sioux county Herald of Feb 22, 1877 Real Estate J. C. Nugent and wife to D. F. Nugent S hf SW Qr 2, 97,43, WD $600.

Sioux County Herald of Aug 12, 1880 The Messrs. Charly Mahler and John Nugent of Sheridan, started up their vibrator thresher Tuesday, the first grain threshed belonging to Mr. J. J. Bell, and was grown on his farm of 240 acres, south of this place. The grain is to be threshed out of the shock, and is to be hauled to the Reed warehouse, who ships it east. The yield will be about 22 bushels per acre.

Alton Democrat of Feb 8, 1890. Matlock News A paper discussing the mental capacity of the female is not equal to that of the male. The paper by Dan Nugent and Ed Sayers was a grand display of wit and humor.

Alton Democrat of Apr 12, 1890 Leonard Nugent and Polly Winneca were married.

Alton Democrat of Nov 30, 1889 John Nugent and Mrs. Marthy Keiff were married at Boyden last week. They are residents of Sheldon.
