De Raad, Arie born Jan 1829 and Gertrude Rysdam, this family encountered numerous challenges coming from the Netherlands to Pella, then on to Sioux County and then on to South Dakota where Arie died 1891 Gertrude came back to Alton Iowa with her children and married Jan Muilenburg and then married Roelof Boer.

*Immigration – In the book ‘Souvenir History of Pella, Iowa’ arrived on the good ship Maasstroom which left Rotterdam, Holland , early in April, 1947 for Baltimore were Cornelius De Raad, Mrs. Cornelius, Jasper, Arie, Albert, and Mietje.

2. Elizabeth Marie De Raad born 29 Dec 1860 Pella Marion Iowa died 1931 Center, Allamakee, Iowa. She married Marinus Mieras born 8 Mar 1850 Netherlands died 6 oct 1910 Moxee WA. Their children were Gerite 1884-1901, Carrie 1885 1920, Ida Mae 1888-1966, Marene 1892, Jennie 1894-1979, Edward 1898-1980 and Oscar 1899-1928.

4. Ira ‘Arie’ De Raad born 29 Apr 1865 Pella Iowa died 17 Dec 1947 Greenbush, Roseau MN. He married Maggie born 1875. Their children were – Arie 1893, Neil 1897, Dick 1899, Albert 1904, Margaret 1909 possibly one more.

Obituary - Hawarden Independent July 19, 1923
Death of Sioux County Pioneer Case DeRaad, one of the pioneer residents of Sioux county, passed away at 12:40 o'clock Tuesday mornIng at his home in Center township, 7 miles northeast of Ireton. His death resulted from diabetes from which he had been a sufferer for the past two years, although he had been bedfast only about two weeks. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Ireton, .conducted by Rev. Wm. Terpsma, pastor of the Christian Reformed church of which the deceased was a member. Interment was made in the Ireton cemetery. Case DeRaad was born at Pella, Iowa, 55 years ago. He came to Sioux county as a small child with his parents, who were among the founders of the Holland colony in this county, and grew to manhood here. Immediately following his marriage he moved to Corsica, S. D., but on account of a crop failure remained there only one year, when he moved back to Sioux county and located on a farm northeast of Ireton and for the past twentynine years has resided continuously in that community. Although a renter, he lived upon but two different farms during all that period, which speaks highly for his business integrity. He was regarded as a splendid neighbor, strictly honest in every particular and his death will be sincerely mourned by many outside the family circle. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters. The children are Ira and Albert DeRaad of Ireton, Mrs. Paul Van Dongen of Sioux Center, and Johanna, Elizabeth and Cornie at home. He also leaves one sister and seven brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Naberhuis of Sioux Center, Ira DeRaad of Green Bush, Wis., Jasper, Albert, William, Marine and Henry DeRaad of Ireton and vicinity, and John De Raad of Orange City.

6. Jasper De Raad born 8 Sep 1869 Marion County Iowa died 19 Jan 1928 Ireton IA. His obituary in the Hawarden Independent of Jan 26, 1928 states he died of heart trouble on Jan 19, 1928 at his home. He was born Sep 17, 1869 at Pella Iowa to Ira and Gertrude De Raad, his first wife was Hattie Muilenburg married 1894 and second wife was Minnie Van Groningen married 1910. Daughter Jessie. Buried Pleasant Hill Ireton.

8. Wynant ‘Will’ De Raad born 9 Apr 1876 Alton IA died 10 Jan 1947 Ireton IA Sioux County Capital of Jan 16th 1947 Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the City Hall for Well De Raad 70 , who was found dead in bed Friday morning, Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. De Raad had been at his usual work the day before. Mr. De Raad was born near Alton Apr 9, 1876, and farmed near Ireton for several years before moving to town. He lived in Ireton for forty years. Surviving him are the widow, a son Alvin of Ireton, and six daughters, Gertryde, Jospehine, Winifred, Minta, Grace and Irene De Raad. Three of the daughters arrived Friday evening and the other three arrived Saturday evening by plane from California at Sioux City. Two brothers also survive, John De Raad of Seney and Henry De Raad of Huson SD.

9. Marinus De Raad 1878-1927 From the Hawarden Independent, March 3, 1927, Ireton and vicinity news: Passed Away in Sioux City The community was saddened when word reached here Monday that Marinus DeRaad had passed away that day at St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City where he had gone only a few days before. Although his condition was considered grave, yet no one thought that his race was so nearly run. He had been a sufferer from diabetes and complications. Mr. DeRaad was a man of his word, highly respected by all who knew him, frugal, hard working, generous and always ready to lend a helping hand to others. He resided in this community for 25 years where he raised his family and will be greatly missed from our midst. Marinus De Raad, son of Ira and Gertrude De Raad, was born on a farm near Alton Feb. 15, 1878, and died in Sioux City Feb. 28, 1927, at the age of 49 years and 13 days. Practically all of his life, with the exception of a few years in his boyhood, was spent in Sioux County. He was united in marriage with Miss Minta Coombs Aug 31, 1899, and to his union were born nine children, Mrs. Henry Wynia and Mrs. Edward Wynia of Holland, Minn.; and Elmer, Arthur, Clifford, Mary, Hazel, Mabel and Florence at home. His parents were born in Holland and were members of the Dutch Reformed church in which he received his early religious training. After moving to this vicinity he was a member of the American Reformed church for a time but later he transferred his membership to the First Presbyterian church of Ireton where he was respected and loved by all and known as a man with real Christian principles. He was loved and honored by all who were touched by his life, devoted to his family, ever ready to do all he could for their welfare, ready to sacrifice for his helpmate. Besides his bereaved wife and children he leaves to mourn one sister and six brothers, Mrs. Herman Naber of Sioux Center; Ira of Greenbush, Minn.; Jess of 'Maurice; Albert, Henry and William of Ireton; John of Le Mars. One brother, Neal, preceded him in death three years ago. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church with Rev. Roy Smith, pastor of the Presbyterian church, in charge. Interment was made in the Ireton cemetery.

10. Henry De Raad 1880-1958 Source: Sioux Center News (5-28-1958) Born: December 30, 1880 Died: 1958 Funeral services were held Monday at the Ireton Presbyterian Church for Henry DeRaad, 78, a former Ireton Resident, who died Wednesday at Bellflower, California. Rev. Howard Anthony of Newton officiated with arrangements under the direction of the Satterlee Funeral Home and burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mr. DeRaad was born December 30, 1880, at Alton, Iowa, and lived in the Ireton community, where he was well-known stockman. He was married to Nellie Popma. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Glenn Miller of Bellflower, California and Mrs. Kenneth Miller of Ireton; five sons, Frank and Leonard of Bellflower, California, Woodrow of Norwalk, California, Arthur and Harvey of Hudson, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His wife, Nellie, preceded him in death in September 1939.

11. Jan De Raad 1882- July 26,1951 Le Mars Semi Weekly Sentinel of July 31, 1951 John De Raad Funeral Services were Held Sunday in Le Mars. Funeral services for John De Raad, 69, of Kingsley were held Sunday at the First Methodist church at Le Mars. Rev. J. t. Snyder of Kingsley officiated. Burial was in the Le Mars Cemetery. John De Raad was born July 2, 1882 at Maurice, Iowa. He moved to SD as a boy and later moved back near Alton.. He was married to Minnie Raak. Februay 4, 1903. After his marriage he and his wife moved to ND and in 1915 they moved to a farm near Le Mars. For the past 19 Years he has farmed near Kingsley. Mr. De Raad was an active farmer until six months before his death. Thursday, July 26 at the Le Mars Sacred Heart hospital. Survivors include the widow, four sons, Marion and Elmer of Hinton, Alfred and Vernon of LeMars; two daughters Mrs. myrtle Madden of Pierson and Mrs. Viola Fulton of Le Mars; one brother Henry of Rock Valley and 13 grandchildren. The Mauer funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Boer, Gertrude (Mrs. Roelof) 1840-1917. She was first married to Ira Arie De Raad 1829-1891, she is buried in Nassau Township cemetery Alton according to the WPA Index states Boer, Gertrude born 1840 died 1917 buried in Nassau Twp. Alton Sioux IA, nee De Raad, w/o R. (correction her nee was Rysdam).
Her parents were Arie Rysdam 1804-1867 and Gerturuy Van Maanen. She was the mother of 10 DeRaad children.

Mrs. R. Boer Passes On: Mrs. R. Boer, a pioneer of this vicinity, died at the home of her son, John De Raad, two miles west of Carnes, Saturday, September 15, after and illness of several years with dropsy. Deceased was one of the earliest settlers in this country coming to this country when it was very new. She was born in the Netherlands and came here when a small child. She was married three times, the first time to Arie De Raad and to this union nine children were born all of home survive the mother. She was later married to John Muilenburg and several years after his death was married to R. Boer the life partner, who died about two weeks ago. She was a devout member of the Reformed church of this place. Deceased was a good wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor and will be missed greatly by those who knew her. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Reformed church. Rev De Jong and Rev. Stegeman of Ireton having charge of the services and interment was made in Nassau township cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, many being friends of the deceased lady. The children who all live near here excepting Arie De Raad, who lives at Greenbush MN, (next few lines are illegible) … Mrs. Herman Naberhuis?, John, Henry, Marinus, Will, Jasper, Albert, Neal, and Arie De Raad. Sincere sympathy is extended the bereaved ones.

ALTON PIONEER PASSES AWAY.
Roelof Boer died at his home in Alton on Sunday, September 2, at the age of 84 years, his death being caused by the ailments of old age.
He was born in the year 1833 in Staphorst, the Netherlands, coming to the United States and to Alton in 1883[*?]. His occupation has been that of a day laborer, his disposition quiet and he was a devout member in the Dutch Reformed church. Mr. Boer was married twice, first to Miss Hilligje Harens in the Netherlands 63 years ago. They had four children, Klass [*Klaas], in Java, Dutch East Indies, who the family has not seen for 32 years and whose wife is Javanese; Mrs. Henry Van Laar, now deceased; Peter of Sanborn, and John of Alton.
Second, he was married to Mrs. De Raad, 20 years ago in Alton, who survives him, although in rather feeble health, at present, her age being 78 years. He also has a brother, John, at Sioux Center, Henry, in the Netherlands; Mrs. K. Horn and Mrs. R. Horn in the Netherlands. The funeral was conducted from the house at 1:30 p.m. at Tuesday, September 4, and at 2:00 o’clock from the First Reformed church, Rev. J. P. De Jong officiating. Those from abroad who were present were as follows: The De Raad boys from Ireton and Maurice, Peter Boer, of Sanborn, Mrs. Naberhuis of Sioux Center, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kooiker of Middleburg, Mr. and Mrs. John Kooiker of Hull, John, Jasper and Arie Muilenburg, of Sheldon and Mr. and Mrs. Al Drager of Archer. The Democrat joins in tendering sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
