OBITUARY OF NICHOLAS GREINER

Born: February 9, 1879
Died: August 20, 1933
This community was greatly surprised when the news came Sunday evening that Nicholas Joseph Greiner had died suddenly at the home of a relative, John Rader, at Rollingstone, Minnesota. Mr. Greiner appeared in his usual health earlier in the day, but was taken sick in the afternoon and died before a doctor could arrive. His death was due to a blood clot in his stomach.
Mr. Greiner was born at Dubuque, Iowa, February 9, 1879, where he spent his early years. His father died when he was eleven years old. Two years later, with his mother, he came to Rock Valley where he made his home the balance of his life. For eleven years he was employed in what was then called the Leader Store in Rock Valley, conducted by I.E. Eldredge. In 1914, he started in business for himself, opening a shoe and harness store and remained in this business until 1930, when with his sons, he built a large garage building, which business he and his sons conducted until recently.
Nicholas Greiner was well known throughout this vicinity. He was a man who was kind and devoted to his family and one who was always ready to help a friend in trouble. His death, occurring away from home as it did, is doubly sad to his surviving relatives.
He was united in marriage May 22, 1900, with Mary Henningfeld, of Rock Valley, who is left to mourn. He also leaves two sons, Henry and Frank, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from St. Mary’s Church in Rock Valley, Reverend Father Janse of Larchwood officiating, with G. Van Nimwegen, funeral director, in charge, and the remains were taken to St. Mary’s Cemetery for burial. During the services business places in Rock Valley were closed.OBITUARY OF MARY GREINER
