Andrew and Wilhelmina (Vande Berg) De Roos have their roots in the Sioux Center area. However, they have lived most of their later married life in California. Wilhelmina’s roots are in the Jan “John” Vande Berg family that is well known as being the father of Welcome township, having named it, after settling there in 1879. “Mina” was born to John and Wilhelmina Kastein Vande Berg on October 8, 1891 on the Vande Berg home place a little northeast of Sioux Center. She was one of nine children and grew up on the family farm with many memories of family life. As a young woman she and her sister, Gertrude became acquainted with the De Roos brothers Andrew and John.
