This BIOS was created from information given on Sasker Rypma and Maria Goslinga by John Bruins of California, concerning his Sioux County ancestral related family. Sasker and Maria had no children but are herein remembered along with their early Sioux County family. This BIOS was written in the form of a family tree narration layout,(however the numbering systen didn't exactly transpose very well) which was arranged and researched by Wilma J. Vande Berg of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society.

Mr. Sasker Riepma died Saturday morning in his home after a week’s serious illness. Mr. Riepma had had the flu and was not strong enough to overcome the effects of it. Obituary will be found elsewhere in this issue.
Same issue Page 1… Mr. Sasker Riepma was born in the Netherlands, Province Friesland in the village of Pingjum on July 4th 1862 and died at this home in Hospers on Saturday morning Feb 26, 1938 at the age of 75 years, after a week’s illness of complications. Mr. Riepma immigrated to this county in the year of 1902 and settled at Alton but after about four years moved to a farm near Hospers and later moved to town where he spent his last years. He is survived by his wife Marie Goslinga Riepma. His immediate family are in the Netherlands and Mr. and Mrs. Riepma had no children. A host of relatives and friends mourn his departure. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 o’clock in the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church Rev. Mr. G. Doctor and Rev. J. Geerlings officiated. Internment was made in the West Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. F. Yakema and son John of Round Lake MN visited Thursday in the home of Mrs. S. Rypma. The Yakema family had received their message of the death of Mr. Rypma to late to attend the funeral on Tuesday Mrs. Yakema and Mrs. Rypma are step sisters.

Mrs. Marie Riepma, 72, nee Goslinga, died at her home in Hospers Sunday, October 22 following the effects of a paralytic stroke suffered October 14. She was born in Friesland, The Netherlands. Surviving are two brothers, Sjoerd Goslinga and P.J. Goslinga, both of Orange City, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rypma died February 26, 1937. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the First Reformed Church at Hospers with Reverend Mr. G. Doctor officiating. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery.

MRS. RIEPMA OF HOSPERS CALLED
Stricken By Paralysis The Week Before Mrs. S. Rypma died at her home on Sunday Oct. 22 at 12:30 P.M. following a paralytic stroke which she suffered a week previous.
Marie Goslinga was born Aug. 5, 1867 at Veendam, Friesland, Netherlands. She was united in marriage to Sasker Rypma who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1936. She and her husband came to America about 37 years ago and settled down in this vicinity. She was 72 years, 2 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. She is survived by two brothers, Sjoerd Goslinga of Orange City and Sjert (Teerd)Goslinga of Sioux Center.
Funeral services were held this Wednesday at 1 o’clock in the home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed church. Burial took place at the West cemetery. (Hospers)

RESEARCH NOTES
Although the usual spelling of this surname appears to be Riepma, both Maria and her husband Sasker are listed in the Sioux County Cemetery Index as Rypma. Her forename is spelled Maria.
Her death certificate (informant Sjoert Goslinga) has her as Marie [or Maria?, handwriting is unclear] Rypma, born Aug. 5, 1867 in the Netherlands; parents John Goslinga and Pietje Dykstra; died at 11:55 A.M. October 22, 1939; cause, cerebral apoplexy, onset 10/14/39; contributory causes, high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis; whole left side of body was paralyzed.

Her Find a Grave.com page has her as Maria Goslinga Rypma, born 5 Aug 1867, died 22 Oct 1939, buried in Hospers Cemetery. Parents Jan Tjeerds Goslinga (1839-1891) and Pietje Sjoerds Dykstra/Dijkstra Goslinga (1838-1930). Siblings - Sjoerdtje Jans Goslinga Van Eyek Van Heslinga (1865-1894), Tjeerd Jans Goslinga (1871-1951), and Sjoerd Goslinga (1874-1942). There is a photo of the joint headstone of her and her husband (confirming her forename as Maria, and a family photo (people identified in photo below).

Mrs. J. Kolthof (formerly Mrs. John Goslinga) died Monday at the home of her son S. Goslinga. She was 86 years of age. The funeral was held Thursday at the First Chr. Ref. Church. Dr. Bronkema officiating.
(She was the second wife of A. Kolthof, Gertrude Vander Kuur being the first) 1910 census has Anne Kolthof with wife Pieye (Pietje) having arrived in USA 1902 lived in Nassau Tsp. Alton IA.

OBITUARY _ TJEERD GOSLINGA
Death came to Tjeerd Goslinga 79, at Grossmann hospital on May 3. He had been ailing
for a year and a half and finally succumbed to asthma and dropsy. Funeral services were held
in the First Christian Reformed church with Rev. William Bajema in charge. Previously services had been held in the home at which Mr. E. R. Kuik presided. Burial was in Nassau township cemetery with the Co-op Burial Association in charge.
Mr Goslinga was born in Arum, Friesland, December 27, 1871 He came to America when he was 21. In 1906 he was married to Clara Dykstra of Orange City She survives him with seven children, Susie, Mrs. W. Van Velzen of Sioux Center, John, Marie, Mrs K. Jongma of Hospers, Tillie, Mrs. J. W. Bruins of Long Beach, Calif., Theodore of Pease, Minn., George, Henry, and 20 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, two in infancy and Lena who was 8, his parents, his sisters Mrs. Susie Van Heslinga of the Netherlands, Mrs. Maria Rypma of Hospers and a brother, Sjoerd. He was the last of his family.

Tjeerd and Clara Goslinga family lost everything in the major tornado in summer of 1944, whereupon they had a sale auction and retired into Orange City . Forced retirement, so to speak. It was very traumatic to the family,
