Education: Attended Newtown Country School, Newtown, IA (through grade 4), then Hancock (IA) Community School (grade 5 through grade 7), and graduated from AvoHa Community School, Class of 1965. While in school, she was active in girls' basketball, played bass clarinet in the band, and belonged to the 4-H Botna Valley Bluebells club. She lettered in both band and basketball and was a 4-year scholar award winner. Following her high school graduation, Kathleen pursued nursing at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, IA; she graduated from St. Catherine’s School of Nursing of the Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital in Sep. 1968 and became a certified registered nurse in October.

Employment: Kathleen’s nursing career included working in clinics and hospitals, but she found fulfillment in her 20 years at REM Leadway, Shelby, IA, where she worked with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and later as a hospice nurse at Myrtue Medical Center, Harlan, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: Loved attending her grandchildren’s activities, enjoying musicals at the Orpheum Theatre, quilting, gardening, and traveling to national parks, Colorado, and South Dakota. Member, the Knox Project Club, AHSTW TeamMates Mentoring program and P.E.O. Chapter GC. Kathleen was proud of her Irish roots and visited Ireland 5 times to attend the O’Dea International Clan Gathering and also to Niagara Falls and St. Louis for the USA Clan Reunion. Other travels took her to Germany, Alaska, New Zealand and Scotland. Mostly, she loved time spent with the family that she and Tom built together.
