Tuesday evening, March 29, Miss Anna Sasse, aged 12 years, who resides in Westphalia township, attempted to cross a stream of high water that passes her mother's house. The snow and ice had accumulated in the stream, and the young girl thought it solid enough to cross over on. When about the middle of the stream she went through the snow and ice, and was drowned. Henry Sunderland, a hired man on the place, attempted to rescue her, but without avail. The body was not found until next morning, when it was pulled out of the water eighty rods below where she went down. Her mother, Mrs. Sasse is a widow lady, and the girl's sister has been working for Mrs. Hoyt Sherman.
