Survived by: Husband of 52 years, Ken Collins of Shelby, IA; son, Gary (spouse, Kate) Collins of Shelby, IA; daughter, Stephanie (spouse, Adam) Harder of Avoca, Iowa; grandchildren, Eli and Jake Collins, and Collin, Evan and Hudson Harder; brothers, John, Jerry, Richard and Steven Evans; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, John and Eunice (nee Swanson) Evans; brother, Frank

Education: Attended and graduated from Shelby-Tennant (IA) Community School, Class of 1968; she then attended a 6-month business school in Kansas City. While working full-time and raising a family, Nancy became a student again in 1984, attending classes in the evenings and on weekends for 7 years to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, IA.

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA; active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA. For several years Nancy wrote and co-directed the Sunday School Christmas program and served as a co-chairperson for Trinity’s Annual Aebleskiver Supper.

Marriage: Ken Collins; May 9, 1970; United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA

Employment: While attending business school, she also worked as a nanny for the family she stayed with. After she married and Ken returned from his naval assignment in 1972, they began farming. In 1982, she began her 30-year employment as Business Manager/Board Secretary for the Shelby-Tennant School and, later, the re-organized AHST Community School District. After she retired from the school district, Nancy worked part-time selling insurance for the Collins Insurance Agency.

Hobbies/Interests: Nancy loved girls’ softball and became one of the founding coaches of the Southwest Iowa Girls Softball League. She always enjoyed coaching and coached youth softball, high school track, jr. high volleyball and basketball, and even served as a junior high assistant wrestling coach for 2 years. She enjoyed projects around the farm, and traveling with Ken. Mostly, she enjoyed her family’s activities.
