Education: Attended West Liberty (IA) Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1941. She then attended Normal Training and received her teaching certificate in 1942. In 1943, she enrolled at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, and graduated in 1944. In 1967, she returned to higher education and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Drake University in Des Moines, IA.

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church, West Liberty, IA; member, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Audubon, IA and served on the Church Council and the Women’s Circle

Employment: In Sep. 1944, Dorothy moved to Viola Center, IA and taught kindergarten at Viola Center School there. After her marriage, she became a homemaker and raised her family until finishing her degree at Drake University in 1967. She then taught for the Audubon and Exira (IA) Community School Districts for several years and later worked as the librarian until her retirement.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Business and Professional Women’s Foundation; served as president of the Audubon Federated Women; served as secretary and treasurer for the Audubon County Genealogy Society; enjoyed spending time at the Good Neighbor Center in Audubon, visiting with friends; was an avid reader and would often read several books each week; loved to quilt and crochet and made every grandchild, great-grandchild and great-great-grandchild a baby and graduation afghan. Mostly, she loved time spent with her family and playing a favorite card, game Zion Check Rummy, with them.
