Education: Attended St. Boniface grade school and high school, Westphalia, IA, where he graduated with the Class of 1949. He later attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA.

Religious affiliation: Baptized at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Westphalia, IA, where he remained a life-long member

Military service: U. S. Army; served during the Korean War where he was on the front lines and earned a variety of medals including: Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, National Defense Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal.

Marriage: Pearl Marie Sonderman; Feb. 6, 1956; St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Defiance, IA

Employment: Farmer; raised hogs, cattle, sheep, corn and soybeans. Retired in 1996 but remained living on the family farm.

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed traveling with Pearl to warmer climates in the winter; enjoyed playing cards, watching his grandkids in many different events; being an active member in the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, St. Boniface Parish Council, Westphalia Athletic Association, and the Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department; was a sports lover but especially loved baseball and the New York Yankees.
