Services Held For Elk Horn Man

ELK HORN - Services for George R. Madsen, 54, Elk Horn, were held at 2 p.,. Sunday at the Elk Horn Lutheran church and burial was in the Elk Horn cemetery.

Mr. Madsen was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday morning near a shed on his property at the south edge of Elk Horn. He died as the result of a shot from a .22 caliber rifle and the weapon was found near his body, according to Shelby county officials. The shooting apparently took place Wednesday night.

He was found by his brother-in-law, Hans Weddum about 9 a.m. Friday. The shed is located north of the house.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Maria Madsen of Elk Horn; two brothers, Edmund Madsen of Elk Horn and Alvin Madsen of Grimes; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Sorensen of Exira, Mrs. Hans Weddum of Elk Horn and Mrs. Emory Fredricksen of Elk Horn. He was never married.
