Education: Attended rural schools in Cass County, IA, through grade 8; because there was no school bus services in the area at that time, high school was delayed. After some years, the decision was made to move Violet to Atlantic, IA and to work her way through high school; she graduated from the Atlantic (IA) High School with the Class of 1945. She then received normal training and went on to teach at country schools. Later, she advanced her teaching certificate at Simpson College in Indianola, IA

After advancing her teaching certificate at Simpson College, Indianola, IA, she taught for an additional 10 years until country schools began to close. After her marriage, she helped her husband farm. She then spent more than 30 years working for United Benefit Society in Marne, IA and Atlantic, IA; she retired in 1992
Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed sewing, hand work, cooking, baking, dancing and playing cards; member, Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; 50-year member, Order of Eastern Star, Marne, IA; with her husband, she enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and travel
