Education: Attended the Lincoln Township Number 4 country school (Shelby County, IA), a one-room school for grades 1 through 8. She then attended Tennant (IA) High School and graduated with the Class of 1943, having particularly enjoyed music class and playing basketball there.

Religious affiliation: Baptized at age 4 by the minister from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA; longtime member there having taught Sunday School and holding various offices in the women’s church groups.

Hobbies/Interests: Served as a 4-H leader and as a room mother for her children while they attended school in Harlan, IA; served on the board at Myrtue Memorial Hospital for 6 years; belonged to the Pioneer Country Club; enjoyed cooking, baking, playing bridge and watching sports on TV.
