Later, he worked as a cook for Lori Tiarks at Old Main Street Grille in Avoca, IA. In addition, he did harvesting work for Bill and Jerod Johnson of Avoca, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: Taught his children how to fish, and loved to go camping, boating, and fishing as a family; he participated in tournament bass fishing; liked to hunt for mushrooms; played Pitch with his friends several times a week
