Employment: Not afraid of hard work, she began working at age 13, detassling corn, babysitting or waitressing in the area. At 16, she began working at the “Chicken Hut” in Harlan, IA. After years of working, she was able to buy the Harlan House Coffee Shop. She also enjoyed being a greeter for the Pauley Jones Funeral Home for many years.

Hobbies/Interests: Excellent book and baker: Alyce was well known for her pies and homemade meals; she also served her community by running the food department for the bloodmobile for 35 years. She was active in quilting groups and any type of volunteer work when she could serve the community.
