Funeral services: Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA; burial of ashes to be held at a later date in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, IA

Survived by: Husband of 53 years, James Burmeister of Harlan, IA; sons, Jamie (spouse, Kelli) Burmeister of Omaha, NE and Jason (spouse, Stacey) Burmeister of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Makenzie Burmeister, Jackson Burmeister, Samuel Burmeister, and Sydney Burmeister; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Joseph Clyde and Agnes Christine (nee Anderson) Ashelford; brother, Frank Ashelford

Education: Attended country school until 8th grade, where she was the only student in her class; she then graduated valedictorian from Central City (NE) High School in 1960. Sally completed nurse’s training at Immanuel Hospital, Omaha, NE; later, she received her BSRN degree from Bellevue University, Omaha, NE

Religious affiliation: Member, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA

Marriage: James Ray Burmeister; Nov. 21, 1965; Central City, Merrick County, NE

Employment: After her marriage and move to Harlan, IA, Sally cofounded a nursing education program in Harlan, IA before she took the nurse position for Shelby County. Later, she worked for many years in the Shelby County Home Health Department of Myrtue Medical Center, Harlan, IA, and also served on the Shelby County Health and the Country Care Facility boards. In addition, she kept the farm’s business accounting records for her husband.

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed traveling with family and friends on many trips including to Okoboji, IA, Mexico, and Turkey; loved to attend her childrens’ or grandchildrens’ activities
