Employment: While Lucy and Ron moved around some in the early years of their marriage, Lucy worked various jobs. After 1992, Lucy and her sister, Peg, opened a bakery in Harlan, a business she had for 5 years. She then worked at the Hy-Vee bakery, and was the assistant manager of the bakery at Super Saver. Lucy then again struck out on her own and opened Big House Bar and Grill in Persia, IA with her son Brad. After 4 years, they expanded to Earling, IA, and then added one more location in Minden. Lucy’s sons, Brian and Brent, helped run the family business for more than 10 years, and Lucy retired due to illness.
