Education: Graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, Earling, IA, Class of 1941

Religious affiliation: Member, Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was a member of the choir and also served as President of the Parish Council.

Military service: U.S. Navy, 1945; honorably discharged

Marriage: Monica Schwery; May 11, 1954; St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, Panama, IA

Employment: After completing high school, Leo worked as a hired hand on several farms, and after completing his military service, he worked on a travelling harvest crew. He then worked as a teller at the bank in Panama, IA. After his marriage to Monica, they farmed outside of Panama and then near Woodbine while they raised their family. In 1963, Leo began working at First National Bank of Woodbine as a teller, and retired as a Vice President in 1982.

Hobbies/Interests: President, Community Club during Woodbine’s Centennial celebration; member, Kiwanis; member, Woodbine American Legion Post # 143; was a longtime pitcher on the Westside Farmers slow-pitch softball team.
