Education: Attended school at the Old Douglas Hill School (east of Woodbine, IA) and then graduated from Woodbine High School, Class of 1955; he then attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in Vocational Education and Farm Operation in 1959. While teaching in Woodbine, IA, Jerry attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha and received his Master's Degree in Guidance in 1961.

Employment: After receiving his BS degree, he returned to Woodbine, IA to live and worked on the family farm while teaching Vo-Ag for the Woodbine, IA school system. After completing his Master’s Degree at UNO in 1961, he then taught in Woodbine, Manilla, and Shelby-Tennant (IA) Schools. In addition, Jerry and Mary partnered with Francis and Iris Harper at the Nutrina Feed Store. He also taught the Farm Veterans class in Panama, IA, and agriculture courses at Iowa Western Community College. In January 1995 Jerry accepted a position as a computer programmer at a computer business in Denison, IA, and worked there until he retired.

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, especially the baseball games. He voluntarily developed directories for local cemeteries, including Persia Valley View, Bigler's Grove, Neola Township and St. Patrick's, Woodbine, Minden Township, and Shelby Cemeteries.
