Military service: After graduating from high school, Bertha enlisted in the armed forces and was stationed at Fort Kearney, NE, where she worked on B-17 bomber instrument panels. She enjoyed her time in the service and talked of her experiences throughout the years. She said she wanted to know about all of the parts of the planes, so she rode in different parts of it, including the baggage area. She served until 1945.

Employment: was a homemaker and did the book work for Don's custom grinding business until his death in 1959. Later, she worked at Rose Vista Nursing Home as a nurse's aide, and then ran a day care from her home.

Hobbies/Interests: enjoyed summer visits with her grandchildren and gardening flowers; loved to go on the shopping trips and out to eat while she was a resident at Rose Vista.
