Survived by: Wife of 73 years, Donnabelle John of Harlan, IA; daughter, Deborah John of Timnath, CO; brother, William Harold John of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters, Phyllis Hardisty of Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Hough of Des Moines, IA, and Marjorie Adair of Mondamin, IA.

Predeceased by: Parents, Nicholas and Gladys John; brothers, Lloyd Charles John, Robert John, and Jerald John; sisters, Lucille Brandriff, Helen House, and Alice Earwood

Education: attended school in Modale, IA; he later attended aircraft school in Omaha, NE.

Religious affiliation: active member, First United Methodist, Harlan, IA

Military service: U. S. Army Air Force, Jan. 1943; he worked as a radio mechanic on several U.S. military bases; he was honorably discharged in 1946.

Marriage: Donnabelle Skinner; May 25, 1943; Methodist Church, Belleville, IL

Employment: Farmed until 1952, when he moved his family to Marshalltown, IA, where Edward was employed at Nichols and Green Shoe Store. That same year they then moved to Chillicothe, MO, where Edward worked at the J.D. Engleman Shoe Store. Beginning in 1953 with a move back to Harlan, IA, Edward worked at Larson’s Shoe Store until 1963, when he partnered with Moody Petersen and purchased the store. Retaining the store’s name, they remained partners until Moody’s retirement in 1973. Edward then owned and operated the store until he retired in August 1987.

Hobbies/Interests: refinishing furniture; taking care of the house and yard
