Education: attended school at Pacific Beach (CA) Middle School; graduated from Mission Bay High School in San Diego, CA; Edward then attended the University of California in San Diego, CA, and received his BA with honors in bioengineering in 1978; he attended the UCSD School of Medicine and received his M.D. in 1982. He served his internship in surgery from June 1982 until July 1983 and then went on to the Residency of Orthopedic Surgery program from July 1983 until June 1987 at the University of California. In 1983, he received his State of California license as an M.D., and also served as a diplomat on the National Board of Medical Examiners. Ed was also licensed in Alabama in 1994 and Mississippi in 2009. He was certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1989 and, later, 1999 to the present time. He was also certified with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1991.
