Education: attended school in Harlan, IA and graduated from Harlan High School, Class of 1934; afterwards, she received her teaching certificate and was able to teach elementary school.

Religious affiliation: member, First Baptist Church, Harlan, IA; she enjoyed bible studies as well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Marriage: Lester Dale Gaer; June 1, 1937; at the home of the bride’s parents in Corley, IA

Employment: After she received her teaching certificate, she taught elementary school for 1 year. She then married, and became a farmer’s wife for 27 years, until they retired from farming in 1965. Bernadine then worked at Coast to Coast in Harlan for 10 years, leaving to join Lester who worked on the road for Western Engineering.

Hobbies/Interests: enjoyed travel, gardening, sewing, baking, crocheting and quilting
