Then, after completing a course in sheet metal work at Frye Aircraft Company in Omaha, NE, he moved to Long Beach, CA and was employed by Douglas Aircraft building the B-17 Flying Fortress. After completing his military service, he returned to Iowa and continued to farm until 1969 when he and his family moved to Corpus Christi, TX. There, he took on a position with Mayflower Transfer and Storage for 15 years.
