Employment: After completing high school, he worked as a cook at the Puritan Cafe in Wilmar. MN; after his marriage to Gloria, he initially worked on the farm. Shortly, however, he as he began working at Steenhusen Hardware and found that he had a real knack for fixing things. In 1956, he started Irwin Pump and Plumbing with a friend, where he worked for 5 years before taking a job with the pork plant in Harlan doing maintenance work. In 1964, he bought back the business he previously had owned, renaming it Kallevig Pump Service.

Hobbies/Interests: he was a self-taught musician, playing the organ; loved photography and gardening
