Education: attended Elk Horn (IA) Community Schools; graduated from high school with the class of 1972; received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Psychology from Iowa State University in Ames, IA in 1976. She later returned to school to study mortuary science.

Employment: After completing her college degree, she was employed at Woodward State Hospital for several years. The family moved to Houston, TX in 1985, and Julie worked at J.W. Lighting. In 1987, they moved again, this time to Austin, TX where she was employed by Dell Computers, starting in customer care and then advancing to become a project manager. She worked for Dell until 2000. In 2006, she returned to Elk Horn, IA and was initially employed at Lincoln Financial in Omaha, NE; she then worked at J.C. Sterling in Harlan, IA for several years. Julie decided to return to school to study mortuary science; while doing so, she was employed as an intern at Kessler Funeral Homes, Inc. in Audubon and Exira, IA. In 2011, she changed employment again and worked for Iowa Hospice, and later moved to Davenport, IA to work for Heartland Hospice. Prior to her passing, she was planning on moving back to Austin, TX.
