Millie Eskov
January 16, 1923 - May 30, 2014

Mildred Mathilda “Millie”, daughter of Jens “Jim” and Hilda (Hansen) Andersen, was born January 16, 1923, near Walnut in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. When Millie was four years old, her family moved to Council Bluffs where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1941. She then worked at Gentlemen’s Radio Crystal, grinding radio crystals for the U.S. Army.

Coming home to Elk Horn to visit her folks on the farm, Millie met Albert Eskov. On November 16, 1943, Millie and Albert were united in marriage at Omaha, Nebraska. Millie was baptized in the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. The Eskov’s made their home in Elk Horn and were parents of two children Larry and Kathy. Albert purchased the Petersen Oil business in 1954, renaming it Elk Horn Oil. At that time they bought a house in the north part of Elk Horn and Millie worked in their home office as secretary for the oil company. Albert died February 8, 1970.

Millie was a member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church. She was active in the Bloodmobile for 30 years, served as president of Outlook Study Club, Band Mothers, and Women of the Church. She also served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent. Millie enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Clifford and Dale Andersen; and sisters June Poldberg and Leila Mae Nelsen.

She is survived by her children: Larry Eskov (Becky) and Kathy Block (Ron), all of Harlan; grandchildren: Katie Ann Esslinger (Spencer) of Ames; David Eskov (Amy) of Olathe, KS; Michael Block (Becky) of Elkhorn, NE; Amy Jo Purcell (Mike) of Apple Valley, MN; brother-in-law Lloyd Nelsen of Kimballton; other relatives and friends.

ELK HORN -- Mildred Mathilda “Millie” Eskov, 91, Elk Horn, died May 30.

Services were held Monday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn with burial in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.

Eskov is survived by children Larry (Becky) Eskov and Kathy (Ron) Block, all of Harlan; four grandchildren; and brother-in-law Lloyd Nelsen of Kimballton.

Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
