Robert Lee Poldberg
Born: June 13, 1926
Death: May 2, 2014

Robert Lee, was born June 13, 1926 in rural Shelby County, Iowa. He was one of four children born to Chris and Elma (Christensen) Poldberg. Robert graduated from rural school Jackson No. 8 when he was 12 and in 1943 graduated from Elk Horn High School. Robert was drafted in 1945 into the United State Army and served his country during the occupation of Japan in World War II.

On November 3, 1947, Robert married Cordell Hansen and farmed east of Kimballton. Three daughters were born to this union Susan, Connie and Ann. Robert farmed for many years and was also a mason/bricklayer in the Elk Horn area and in California. Robert and Cordell lived in Desert Hot Springs, California for fourteen years. Cordell passed away on April 14, 1993. Robert married Rose Anne Larsen on July 5, 1995. Robert and Rose Anne made their home in Kimballton since that time.

Robert was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Jacksonville, the Elk Horn Saddle Club, and Kimballton AMVETS. Robert enjoyed golf and was an avid baseball player and fan. He and his brothers frequently played baseball together in their youth. When Robert’s daughters were young and no softball program existed in Elk Horn, he helped to start this program and also served as the coach. Robert loved to collect old things and could often be found at garage sales and auctions. He enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with family and friends, as well as visiting with them and telling jokes.

Robert became ill at his home on May 2, 2014 and was transferred to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan where he was pronounced dead. Robert's family unselfishly allowed the Iowa Donor Network to harvest tissue before he was cremated.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Dale and Lyle Poldberg and sister Vivian Poldberg.

Robert is survived by his wife Rose Anne Poldberg of Kimballton; three daughters, Susan Hoegh of Sully; Connie (Paul) Lykke of Omaha, NE, and Ann (Mel) Beltz of Ames, NE; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; Rose Anne’s children: Joni (Steve) Christensen of Elk Horn; Jordan (Pam) Larsen of Kimballton; and Ryan (Stacie) Larsen of Elk Horn; cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
