Funeral services: Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, Peace United Church of Christ, Walnut, IA; Pastor Jim Allen officiated. Burial was at Layton Township Cemetery, Walnut, IA.

Survived by: Wife of 63 years, Deloris Allen of Walnut, IA; sons, Jim (spouse, Gia) Allen of Huntington Beach, CA, and Jan Allen of Walnut, IA; granddaughter, Stephanie Allen of Huntington Beach, CA; grandson, Jonathan "J. J." Allen of Huntington Beach, CA.

Predeceased by: Parents, Avery Allen and Maurine (nee Griffith) Allen; sisters, Mary Commenty and Jean Corey

Education: attended country school and later Walnut Schools; graduated from Walnut High School, Class of 1946

Employment: After their marriage and military discharge, Robert farmed outside of Walnut until 1960; he then relocated his family to Long Beach, CA, where he was employed by No. American Rockwell as a production planner; he later worked for Lucky Markets as a liquor manager. After retiring and returning to Iowa, Bob served on the Peace Haven Retirement Home board.

Hobbies/Interests: growing up, Robert belonged to 4-H and raised purebred Angus cows. He grew up playing sports and later played baseball for the Hancock and Walnut town teams. After his marriage and military discharge, Bob belonged to the American Legion and served as commander of the Walnut AmVets. After they moved to California, Bob worked with the Boy Scouts for several years, and spent 18 years working with youth at the Long Beach Los Altos Eldorado Park. He managed 2 youth baseball teams there, along with volunteering as an umpire and having served on its board. Additionally, Bob enjoyed playing cards, going dancing, fishing, cooking and traveling to their winter home in Apache Junction, AZ.
