Funeral services: Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA; Rev. John Frost officiated. Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia, IA.

Survived by: Wife of 43 years, Rosemary, of Harlan, IA; sons, Darrin Cingle of Omaha, NE, Anthony P. Thraen of Harlan, IA, and Andrew W. (spouse, Sara) Thraen of Harlan, IA; daughter, Jodie (spouse, Gary) Hopp of Harlan; 9 grandchildren

Predeceased by: Parents, Ambrose and Ariel (nee Densmore) Thraen; brother, Ronald Thraen

Education: attended St. Michael’s Catholic School; graduated from Harlan High School, Class of 1961. During his high school summers, he attended the Sioux City Barber College. After his military service, “Dinger” attended a computer programming school.

Religious affiliation: was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where he remained a life-long member

Military service: enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962, where he served his country stateside and overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged.

Marriage: Rosemary A. Spencer; Jan. 31, 1970; Council Bluffs, IA

Employment: After attending a computer programming school, he started at the Council Bluffs (IA) Savings Bank. He taught at the Sioux City (IA) Barber College, and worked for Alter Company in Council Bluffs. Then in 1977, Dinger and Rosemary moved to Harlan, IA, where he opened his own barber shop. Lastly, he was an Investment Broker until he retired the summer of 2010.

Hobbies/Interests: Music was one of Don’s greatest loves. He was in several music groups over the years including “ The Collisions”, “The Last Remains”, “Friday and the Weekends”, “Leather and Lace” and “The Great Imposters”(1990-2012). In 2007, Don was inducted with “The Great Imposters” into the Iowa Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. He was a board member of the Town and Country Credit Union in Harlan and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3900 of Harlan.
