Died: July 10, 2013; Kindred Hospital in Brea, CA

Funeral services: Graveside, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013; Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, IA; Pastor Donna Ewert officiated. The Patriot Guard Riders of Iowa were in attendance. Military Rites were performed by Harlan American Legion Helmer Reyelt Post No. 150 and Shelby County VFW Post No. 941.

Survived by: wife of 25 years, Janette Conrad of Fullerton, CA; children, Tracy Taylor Weiking, Nathan Conrad (spouse, Carrie), Trevor Conrad, Alex Conrad, and Morgan Conrad all of CA; 5 grandchildren; brother, Randy Conrad (spouse, Sandy) of Harlan, IA; nieces, nephews and friends in both IA and CA.

Predeceased by: Parents, Alvin and Delores (nee Bristol) Conrad; sister, Sue Swain; brothers, David and Mark

Education: attended country school at Lincoln Township #4 in Harlan, IA, near his family’s farm until grade 8; he then attended Harlan Community High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. Del excelled both academically and athletically in high school, participating in 4 sports each year while maintaining an “A” average; he was also elected President of the Senior Class. Upon graduation, he continued his education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, but his education was interrupted while he served in the U. S. Army. After his term of military service ended, he continued his college education at three universities: Arkansas, Alabama, and then finished his Business Degree in Accounting at the University of Iowa in 1972.

Military service: proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. Due to his extensive and impressive education, he was selected for Officer’s Candidate School and served as a Captain in Vietnam.

Marriages: (1) Karen McLaughlin; marriage lasted 18 years, but no dates provided. (2) Janette Ochoa; 1988; California

Employment: His business career began as a CPA with the accounting firm of McGladrey and Pullen in South Bend, IN. After 7 years, he transferred to the Anaheim, CA office of M&P and became a Partner in the firm. Del later retired his partnership with M&P and became an industry SEC-compliance financial officer for businesses who were taking their companies public. For the last 7 years, he was employed by the Willdan Group of Companies, an engineering firm in Anaheim as their Vice-President of Financial Reporting & Compliance.

Hobbies/Interests: was an avid sports fan and loved his Lakers, Angels, Patriots and UCLA football. He enjoyed coaching and watching his children play sports.
