Marianne Clark
September 21, 1929 - December 22, 2010Marianne, daughter of Claude and Mary Hannah (Carey) Blackman, was born September 21, 1929 at Denison, Iowa. She grew up in Denison and graduated from Denison High School. Marianne worked at the local telephone office both during and after high school.
On February 20, 1949, Marianne was united in marriage with Howard Clark by her brother Rev. Clarence Blackman. Two children were born to this union. The family made their home in the Irwin area on Howard’s family farm. Marianne was a busy farm wife and mother. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Irwin, where she was the choir director for many years. Marianne was also active in the Greenridge Steam and Gas Antique Show and the Jefferson Community Club. She played the guitar and she and Howard attended and jammed at many music festivals.
Marianne moved to Elm Crest Assisted Living in Harlan at the end of 2009. Following a fall and a brief hospitalization, Marianne died at the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla, Iowa on Wednesday, December 22, 2010. She was 81 years, 3 months and 1 day of age.
Preceeding her in death are her parents and ten brothers and sisters.
Marianne is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Howard Clark of Manilla; daughter Jeanna Schechinger (Jay) of Manilla; son James Clark (Cathy) of Manilla; four grandchildren: Toni Stork; Mark Rasmussen (friend Jennifer Bistline); Matt Clark (fiancée Kattie Arndt); Jami Madden (Jerod); step grandchildren Jacob and Laci Schechinger; six great-grandchildren: Cale and Trenna Stork; Madison and Jaedan Rasmussen; Hannah Madden; and Cassie Petersen; sister Jean Bauer of Denison; sisters-in-law Virginia Blackman of Baltimore, MD, and Jean Lansman of Harlan; brother-in-law Lorren Clark of Council Bluffs; other relatives and friends.
