Funeral services: Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, Pauley Jones Funeral Home, Harlan, IA; Ted Sieck officiated. Military Rites were held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, IA.

Survived by: Sisters, Lela Hanson of Harlan, IA and Charlotte Doonan of Elk Horn, IA; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Raymond and Mabel (nee Axland) Young; brother, Jackson; sister, Mildred; niece, Judy Struve

Education: graduated with the Irwin (IA) High School, Class of 1944

Religious affiliation: baptized at Church of Christ in Irwin, IA, where he remained a lifelong member

Military service: Donald entered the U.S. Army on Sep. 21, 1950, serving during the Korean War. After his release from active duty in 1952, he spent 5 years in the Ready Reserve on active status, completing his enlistment in April 1957.

Employment: Donald and his brother, Jackson, farmed with their father on the family farm, which was homesteaded in 1871 near Irwin, IA.
