Employment: After his graduation in 1942, he farmed with his dad. After his marriage in 1945, he became a self-employed truck driver for 20 years. He drove for Henry G. Nelsen until 1973 when he bought his own truck. After his second marriage, he taught Ellen how to drive a semi and they trucked together for 7 years. In February of 1984, they bought the Nieman Pool Hall and started a restaurant called the Heritage Inn in Avoca, IA. They ran the restaurant together for over 17 years until retiring in October of 2000.

Hobbies/Interests: Norman and Ellen enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. Norman collected John Deere tractors and enjoyed pulling at antique tractor pulls. He also liked restoring old cars and pickups with the help of his friend, Kenny Kohl. Norman loved music; especially polka. Ellen and Norman went to several polka fests in Nebraska and Arizona.
