Employment: Because of her father’s death when she was 12, Arlene helped manage the farming responsibilities. From the mid 1960's to 1970's, Arlene managed the hardware store in Westphalia, IA. During this time, she began selling carpet. She then began selling carpet from her home until 2002, when she retired.

Hobbies/Interests: Arlene enjoyed playing cards, sewing, embroidery, visiting her children and grandchildren, making chocolate chip cookies, and especially planting flowers. She made 5 formals for her granddaughter’s weddings. Arlene was also a member of the Governor’s advisory committee.
