In July of 1940, their crops were hailed out and they were only able to raise carrots. They moved to a farm near Westphalia in 1945 and, in 1950, purchased the farm from Nick’s father. Sally did custom decorating, papering, and painting for people in the area. She worked at the Maidrite Café for several years. Later, she became a nurses’ aide at Myrtue Memorial Hospital. She then did in-home caregiving after retiring as a nurses’ aide.
