Survived by: wife of 35 years, Pamela Opheim, of Harlan, IA; son, Joshua Opheim (spouse, Sarah) of Ames, IA; grandson, Christopher Opheim, of Ames, IA; sister, Janet (spouse, Dan) Peters of West Branch, IA; brother, Michael Opheim, of Humboldt, IA; other family members and many friends

Education: graduated from Humboldt (IA) High School, Class of 1966; University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, Bachelor of Science degree in teaching in 1970; After graduating from USD, Denny attended the University of Northern Iowa where he began graduate course work.

Employment: After getting married, Denny and Pamela moved to Harlan where Denny was employed by the Harlan Community Middle School to teach social studies and history. He left teaching and worked at Handyman Supply, and then worked at the Farm Bureau as an insurance salesman. In 1976, Pamela opened Present Trends in downtown Harlan, and Denny joined her full-time in 1983.

Hobbies/Interests: Denny very much enjoyed owning the store with Pamela and taking care of their customers. He loved being downtown, and would visit daily with the other merchants. In addition, he relished time with family, especially his grandson, Christopher. He also enjoyed camping and hiking and took several trips with his son, Josh, to Glacier National Park and Minnesota.
