Jane Elaine Myers - Age 81

Jane Elaine Myers was born on June 25, 1931 to Roy Kirkpatrick and Alma Jensen in rural Avoca. She was baptized at Lutheran Church in Avoca and has since been a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Jane attended country school in the France School House outside of Shelby, Iowa and graduated from Shelby High School in 1950.

On February 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Dick Myers in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dick and Jane had one son, Dick Jr.

Jane worked at the Candle Eggs Plant in Avoca and the Furniture Plant in Tennant for a short time before she started working at the Sportsman. She worked as a waitress and cook with her husband who owned and operated the Sportsman. Jane then bartended at Harry Jacobsen’s and Fred’s until she retired due to her COPD in 1996.

Jane died on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of eighty-one years, eleven months, and twelve days. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, brothers: Calvin Kirkpatrick and Dale “Mike” Kirkpatrick; and her sister Irene Shriver.

She is survived by her son Dick Myers Jr. and his wife Nikki of Avoca, Iowa; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters: Eloise Haight of Minden, Iowa, Joan and her husband Fred Jr. Miller of Avoca, and Jeanette “Nettie” Michaelsen of Walnut, Iowa; brother-in-law Ralph Shriver of Macedonia, Iowa; sister-in-law Vesta Kirkpatrick of Council Bluffs, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.

Pastor Eric Meissner officiated the 2:00 PM funeral service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Burial was held in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca with Jeff Gubbles, Tim Gubbles, Dave Holst, Tim Grimsley, Ray Olsen and Rex Eichelberger serving as casket bearers.
