Daryl D. Jensen - Age 80

Daryl Dean Jensen was born on August 12, 1931 to Julius and Nellie (Hulsebus) Jensen in Kirkman, Iowa. He attended school in Kirkman and graduated with the Class of 1949.

On December 25, 1949 he was united in marriage to Opal Hansen at her parent’s home in Harlan, Iowa. One son, Arlin, was born to this union.

Daryl began farming with his father-in-law, Elmer Hansen, just outside of Harlan. He and Opal later took the farm over after Elmer retired. They also started trucking in the 1950's.

He continued to farm and was later joined by his son in their farming operation. They remained on the family farm until his retirement in 2002. After Opal’s death in December of 2008, Daryl remained on the farm until February of 2012 when he became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan.

It was at Elm Crest that he died on Thursday, April 5, 2012, having attained the age of eighty years, seven months, and twenty-four days. He was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Nellie, his wife of fifty-nine years Opal Jensen, sister Marilyn Stamp, and brother Larry Jensen.

He is survived by his son Arlin Jensen of Harlan, Iowa; brothers Gerald Jensen of Sun City, Arizona, Virgil Jensen and his wife Kitty of Loveland, Colorado, and Donald Jensen and his wife Judy of Macedon, New York; sister Karen and her husband Leon Brockelsby of Kenner, Louisiana; other family members and friends.

Don Robinson officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Larry Clemons, Larry Klein, Carlyle Larson, Dan Campbell, Leon Brockelsby, and Richard Hansen. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
