Lewis "Lew" H. Hall - Age 69

Lewis Henry Hall was born on February 24, 1943 to Benton and Willie Hazel (Calvin) Hall at Creston, Iowa. With his father being in the United States Army, the family moved to various states when Lew was a youngster.

Lew himself served in the United States Army approximately eight years, two of which were served in Vietnam.

On August 17, 1969, he was married to Marydene Hill at White Swan, Washington. To this union, one daughter, Tammy, was born.

On June 13, 1994, Lew married Glenda Kloewer Schwarte in Anchorage, Alaska. They made their home in Defiance, Iowa.

Lew was a member of the Defiance Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department for several years and a member of the American Legion Post 707.

He worked various types of jobs in his lifetime with the more recent jobs being with Wells Pumping in Defiance and Conductix, Inc. in Harlan. Lew enjoyed helping people, whether with a fire or EMT call; assisting others with mechanical problems, or with monetary gifts.

On November 6, 2012, Lew became a resident of Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa. It was there that he died on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 having attained the age of sixty-nine years, nine months, and eighteen days. Because of Lew’s declining health, his body was unable to be donated to science, which had been his wish. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sisters Sarah and Rita, his first wife Marydene, infant daughter Tammy; brother-in-law Delbert Shuck, Sr. and Glenda’s parents Hubert and Luella Kloewer.

He is survived by his wife Glenda Hall of Defiance, Iowa; step-sons Dameian Schwarte and his wife Stacy of Ankeny, Iowa and Douglas Schwarte of Council Bluffs, Iowa; granddaughter Hailey Kay Schwarte of Ankeny; brothers Clarence "Bud" Hall and his wife Jackie of Toppenish, Washington, John Hall and his wife Linda of Spokane, Washington, and David Hall; sisters Barb Shuck of Boring, Oregon, Anna Patrick of Kirkland, Washington, Helen and her husband Sky Brown of Concrete, Washington, and Anita and her husband Virg Shimer of Creston, Iowa; extended family of in-laws: Albert and Gay Schwarte and Joe and Vernita Schwarte of Defiance, Iowa, Harry Schwarte of Carroll, Iowa, Marilyn Schwarte and Richard and Myrna Schwarte of Manilla, Iowa, Irene Reischl of Manning, Iowa, Gordon and Thelma Nelson and Clarence and Karen Brinker of Harlan, Iowa, Sister Darlene Schwarte of Davenport, Iowa, Sister Madonna Schwarte of Omaha, Nebraska; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.

Rev. Chris Fontanini officiated the 1:00 PM funeral service on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. A private burial was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance, Iowa.
