Eugene John Sibenaller was born on May 11, 1934 to Michael and Frances (Hoffman) Sibenaller in Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle and attended Holy Angels grade school. He graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1952.

On June 9, 1956, he was united in marriage to Lois Brinker at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Iowa. They became parents to six children: Kay, Gary, Tammy, Rhonda, Perry, and Mary.

Eugene began his career at Iowa Public Service Company which later became Mid-American Energy. He served an apprenticeship and became a lineman, working in Carroll, Sloan, Audubon, and finished his career serving Earling and the surrounding communities, retiring in 1993 after nearly forty years with the company. He also owned car washes in Dunlap, Manilla, and Woodbine.

Eugene and his family moved to Earling in 1963 and were actively involved in St. Joseph’s Parish as well as many local activities. He loved to go fishing in Canada with Lois and friends, making the trip annually for many years. He lived by the motto “treat others as you would like to be treated” and stressed to his kids to do the same.

Eugene died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 having attained the age of seventy-nine years, one month, and twenty-one days. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary, five grandchildren: Rose and Matt Schechinger, Adam and Andrew Sibenaller, and Megan Powers, and brothers Rev. Joseph, Edward, and Greg Lambert, sisters Helen Williams, Catherine Steffes, and sister Agnes in infancy.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years Lois Sibenaller of Earling, Iowa; children: Kay and her husband Tom Schechinger of Westphalia, Iowa, Gary Sibenaller of Santa Rosa, California, Tammy and her husband Toby Hastert of Westphalia, Iowa, Rhonda and her husband Frank Powers of Defiance, Iowa, and Perry Sibenaller and his wife Susie of Overland Park, Kansas; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Rita Hackfort of Carroll, Iowa, Anita Williams of Austin, Minnesota, and Olga Sibenaller of St. Louis, Missouri; brother Lawrence Sibenaller of Roselle, Iowa; other family members and many friends.

Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Shane Schechinger, Nicole Schechinger, Justina Sibenaller, Ross Hastert, Jeff Hastert, Max Powers, Loras Hackfort, and Mary Koenen. Interment was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
