Grace M. Gaul - Age 70

Grace Marie Gaul was born on May 24, 1941 to Irvin and Agnes (Petsche) Chamberlain in Panama, Iowa. She was one of nine children in the family. She graduated from St. Mary’s high school in Panama.

Grace was united in marriage to Garry Gaul on June 27, 1964 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Laurie, Katherine and Kristine. The couple made their home in Earling, Iowa.

Grace enjoyed sewing, needlework and cross stitching. She designed quilts, wrote poetry calligraphy and sewed over 400 quillows. She created many altar and baptismal stoles, as well as the priests altar cloths.

Grace enjoyed playing and organizing bingo for the church. She organized congregate mealsite in Earling and served as sacristan for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she assisted several priests.

She was a dedicated housewife and mother. She loved spending time with her family and she especially loved being a grandma.

Grace died on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kansas having attained the age of seventy years, eight months and twenty-five days. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Garry Gaul of Earling, Iowa; her daughters: Laurie and her husband Tom Dunlap of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Katherine "Kat" Gaul of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kristine "Krissy" Gaul of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren: grandsons, Jake Dunlap and Eric Dunlap and his wife Kelly and granddaughter, Kailiana Dunlap; her siblings: Msgr. Bob Chamberlain of Des Moines, Iowa, Betty Lord Dinan and her husband Dick of Elkader, Iowa, Alice "Peach" Chamberlain of Omaha, Alvin Chamberlain and his wife Paula of Omaha, Ronald Chamberlain of Panama, Iowa, Jane and her husband Dave Olsasky of Des Moines, and Diane and her husband Dave Kleffmann of Glenwood, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Chris Fontanini and concelebrated by Msgr. Bob Chamberlain and Rev. Chuck Kottas at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Burial was later held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.
