Leland Randolph Dickmeyer - 60

Leland Randolph Dickmeyer was born on November 5, 1952 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Dale and Wanda (Hash) Dickmeyer. He was baptized and confirmed at Galilee Baptist Church. He attended school in the Des Moines, Iowa area at Phillips and Willard Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, and East High School. He later moved to the Kirkman, Iowa with his family and attended Irwin High School.

After high school, he moved to Seattle, Washington and attended automotive mechanic school. He stayed in Seattle for nine years before moving to the Phoenix area. In the late 1980's, Leland moved to Kirkman, Iowa to be closer to his family and became employed at Insul 8 for about eight years. He worked for a short time at the Harlan Newspapers before most recently working at Taylor Quick Pic in Harlan during the last ten years.

Leland loved watching sports and spent numerous hours watching his favorite teams: the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, professional baseball, and pro basketball on television. But he was happiest playing softball and "noon" basketball at the fitness center.

He also enjoyed working on his cars, attending the Iowa State Fair during the summer months, listening to music and reading Stephen King books. Leland loved animals and was especially fond of his cat, Jazz.

Leland died unexpectedly on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, having attained the age of sixty years, three months, and ten days. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister Sherry and grandparents.

He is survived by his brother Michael Dickmeyer and his wife Judi of Omaha, Nebraska; twin sister Lynnette and her husband James Hyndman of Grimes, Iowa; step father Gene Baughman at the Little Flower Haven nursing home in Earling, Iowa; nephew Michael Anderson and his wife Carey of Waukee, Iowa, niece Meredith and her husband Jason Efkin of Omaha, nephew Timothy Dickmeyer and his wife Janelle of Treynor, Iowa; niece Beth Dickmeyer of Omaha; other family members and many friends.

Pastor Dan Hawn officiated the 2:00 PM funeral service on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Pat Burns, Eric Sorensen, Brian Sieren, Joe Lauterbach, and Donnie Kenkel. Serving as casket bearers were Gaige Petersen, Steve Finn, Clark McGrath, Doug Burmeister, Don Lantz, and Kelly Mahlberg. Interment was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Kirkman, Iowa.
