Dean Arthur Linden was born on December 28, 1950 to Duane and Bernice (Andersen) Linden in Harlan, Iowa. The only son, and eldest of eight children, Dean attended and was baptized at the Methodist Church in Tennant, Iowa, and at First Baptist Church of Harlan, Iowa. He attended kindergarten at the Country School, first grade at the Tennant School, and completed his education at Harlan Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1969.

Dean was proud to serve his country in the Armed Forces for over seventeen years. He was honored to be recognized several times for his expertise and service and attained the rank of Captain during his military service during the Vietnam War era, being stationed in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Dean was a master mechanic and much of his working life was centered around machinery, motors, and agriculture. He also enjoyed construction and worked as a carpenter. For several years, Dean lived and worked in Colorado. His occupations there included working for a concrete company, snow removal service, and as a trail guide. It was during this time that he met and married Anita Percifield in August of 1989.

Dean loved the outdoors and this love was reflected in his many interests and hobbies. These included snowmobiling, snowmobile racing, four-wheeling, riding horses, collecting guns and caring for his pets. Dean loved his family and enjoyed the many gatherings and celebrations shared together. He also enjoyed farming, driving truck, and anything John Deere. He especially loved the trips to the mountains with his faithful companions - his animals.

In October of 1999, Dean and Dr. Deborah Wilson were united in marriage in Harlan, Iowa. They lived in Walnut, Iowa where Dean was a member of the Walnut American Legion Post Number 422.

Dean passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness on Thursday, April 18, 2013, surrounded by loving family. Dean had reached the age of sixty-two years, three months, and twenty-one days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Bernice.

He is survived by his loving sisters: Sharon and her husband Darrel Mathiasen of Harlan, Iowa, Shirley and her husband Dennis Tschirren of Omaha, Nebraska, Susan and her husband Fred Nelson of Audubon, Iowa, Sarah and her husband Jack Christensen of North Mankato, Minnesota, Sally and her husband Jim Kolling of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, Sena Linden of Des Moines, Iowa, and Shawn and her husband Scott McLaughlin of Defiance, Iowa; devoted Dr. Deborah Linden of Walnut, Iowa; loving nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.

Pastor Al Hazelton officiated the 3:00 PM graveside service on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Harlan Cemetery. Military Rites were performed by the Walnut American Legion Post No. 422.
