Marriages: (1) Marie Kruse, Oct. 4, 1959, Council Bluffs, IA; they divorced in 1971. (2) Patricia Plagman, June 9, 1972, Shelby, IA; they divorced in 2002.

Employment: farmer, 32 years on farms located southwest of Harlan, IA; was then employed by Irving F. Jensen Construction; later worked at Botna Bend Park and the Harlan Community Library before retiring.

Hobbies/Interests: Past-president of the Shelby County Pork Producers, a former 4-H leader, former member, Harlan Kiwanis; an avid Iowa State and Kansas City Royals fan. Vernon loved to fish and read; spending time with his family was particularly enjoyable for him.
