Education: attended and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Schools

Marriage: Janice M. (nee Gross) Stessman, Oct. 15, 1961, St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, IA. After they were married, Owen adopted Janice’s 3 children. They later had a son which completed their family.

Employment: After high school graduation, he worked for his parents in their meat market and restaurant. Later, he went to work at Swanson Grocery Store in Harlan, IA as a meat cutter. He continued working there and purchased the locker plant in Earling in 1960. In 1980, Owen sold Langenfeld Lockers to the Gross family and went to work with his son at Pauley Funeral Home. He continued to work there until the 1990s when health issues required him to stop.

Hobbies/Interests: Active member, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA., where he served as a lector, usher and on the Parish Council. Member, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Earling Council No. 1741 of Earling, IA; member, Fourth Degree, Luke E. Hart General Assembly, Knights of Columbus and its Chalice Club of Defiance, IA; was a past Grand Knight of the 3rd Degree and past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree. Also, past member of the Earling Commercial. For many, many years, Owen enjoyed decorating his Harlan home with extensive Christmas decorations and lights.
