Douglas R. Wellman

Douglas R. Wellman, age 64, of Council Bluffs, passed away suddenly April 25, 2013, in Pottawattamie County, while turkey hunting.

Doug was born October 25, 1948, in Council Bluffs, to Leonard and Theresa (Schwery) Wellman. He graduated St. Albert High School in 1966 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Doug married Jean Reimers on April 28, 1973. They were blessed with three children. Doug was a product service sales representative for Nebraska Machinery for the past 22 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and an avid hunter.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Wellman; and brother, Steve Wellman.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jean Wellman; son, Tony (Carolyn) Wellman; daughters, Jill (Eric) Applegate, all of Council Bluffs, Jenny (CJ) Noelck, of Atlantic, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jesse Hall, Alexis Noelck, Brody Applegate, Caden Noelck, and Kara Applegate; mother, Theresa Wellman, of Neola, Iowa; sister, Terri (Mark) Sterbins, of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers, Randy (Ardith) Wellman, Curt Wellman, Kelly Wellman, all of Neola; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the Family Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Memorial service Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Inurnment in Ridgewood Cemetery with full military honors. A lunch will follow at Saint John Lutheran Church. The family will direct memorials.
