Donna F. Barry - Age 85

Donna Ferne Barry was born on April 8, 1927, to Arthur and Hattie (Arnold) Waite on a farm south of Woodbine, Iowa. She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Woodbine. Donna attended country school in Harrison County and graduated from Woodbine High School with the Class of 1945. She graduated from Teachers Training and taught country school for one year before her marriage on December 16, 1945 to Eugene Barry at the Christian Church in Woodbine. One daughter, Judy, was born to this union.

Donna’s family was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed being a homemaker, raising her daughter, and helping her husband on the farm.

After Eugene was discharged from the Navy, he and Donna farmed with Donna’s dad. In 1949, the family moved to a farm near Harlan, Iowa. They bought their own farm southeast of Harlan in 1970.

They moved into Harlan in 1985 and retired in 1988. They enjoyed taking small trips, especially to Branson, Missouri.

Donna died on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa having attained the age of eighty-five years, seven months, and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 2008, her parents, brothers Bud Waite and Duane Wait, and sisters Helen Tupper and Myrna Lewis.

She is survived by her daughter Judy and her husband Gale Baughman of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Doug Baughman and his wife Tammie of Kirkman, Iowa; Melinda and her husband Eric Gebauer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and great-granddaughter Katie Baughman; great-grandsons Cole and Wyatt Gebauer; brother Glen Waite of Woodbine, Iowa; other family members and friends.

Pastor Al Hazelton officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Interment was held in the Harlan Cemetery.
