RONALD D. NIELSEN, 88, a resident of the Heritage House in Atlantic, died Tue., March 5th. Funeral services for RONALD NIELSEN will be held 10:30 a.m. Sat., March 9th, at the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis. Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis, with a Military committal by the Atlantic Color Guard.

Ronald "Ron" Dean Nielsen

Ronald Dean Nielsen, 88, of Lewis, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

The son of Alfred and Edna Nielsen, Ron was born June 17, 1924, in a farm house near Walnut, Iowa. He attended a country school through 8th grade. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Philippines until 1946 before being discharged. Ronnie farmed for several years around the Atlantic and Marne areas, then later worked for Lindeman Tractor in Atlantic as a mechanic before retiring.

Ronald was married to Audrey Bissell on January 24, 1954 in the Atlantic Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with three children. He is survived by his wife Audrey; his daughter Kristina Ford (Carl) of Bridgewater, Iowa; two sons: Brent Nielsen (Mary) of Winchester, Virginia and David Nielsen (Kristi) of Washington, Iowa; six grandchildren: Natalie Lewis (Ernie) of Winchester, Iowa, Rachael Morrison (Zac) of Washington, Iowa, Bryce Nielsen of Washington, Iowa, Amanda Nielsen and fiancée Andrew Robertson of Iowa City, Iowa, Gregory and Tyler Ford of Bridgewater, Iowa; one granddaughter: Makayla Scott of Washington, Iowa; two great grandchildren: Makayla Morrison of Washington, Iowa and Michael Robertson of Iowa City, Iowa; and two great step-grandchildren: Lexie and Karli Lewis of Winchester, Virginia; and many relatives and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Marian, Margaret, Dorothy and Shirley; one brother: Clarence Nielsen; two brothers-in-law: Bernie Chapman and Rex Inman.
